The city of Dallas will send out its pesticide trucks to help fight the spread of West Nile Virus.
The Environmental and Health Service Department announced Tuesday that trucks will roll on three locations overnight July 23, 24, and 25.
In North Oak Cliff, the area to be sprayed is bounded by Colorado Boulevard, Cedar Hill Avenue/Llewellyn Avenue, 10th Street, Beckley Avenue, 9th Street, Storey Street and R.L. Thornton/I35 back to Colorado Boulevard. Spraying will begin at 10p.m. Thursday, July 23 and end at 3 a.m. Friday, July 24.
In Southern Dallas, pesticide trucks will roll in an area bounded by Canada Drive, Pluto Street, Bernal Drive, Norwich Street, Singleton Boulevard and Westmoreland Road. That will happen Thursday, July 23 at 10p.m. and end at 3 a.m. Friday, July 24.
A third area to be sprayed is in Southeast Oak Cliff, bounded by Linfield Road, Carbondale Street, south Loop 12 and the Trinity River. The spraying is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday, July 24 and end Saturday, July 25 at 3 a.m.
The decision to spray came after positive tests for West Nile virus in mosquitoes in those areas. No human cases have been reported.
Residents living in those areas should avoid contact with the spray by staying indoors.
Anyone in a vehicle while trucks are actively spraying should remain in their vehicles with the windows up and the air conditioner on until the trucks pass and the spray is no longer visible.
Residents who come in contact with the spray are advised to wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water. The spray breaks down quickly in the presence of sunlight and has no residual effect.
Pets should be brought inside during the spraying period.
