Rangers Affiliate Offers Wilson a Deal

The Texas Rangers' Class A affiliate Myrtle Beach Pelicans have made Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson quite an interesting offer.

Wilson, who is fresh off a Super Bowl victory and a victory parade to trump all victory parades this week in Seattle, was drafted by the Rangers in December's Rule 5 draft after being drafted by the Colorado Rockies and playing some games in the minor league system while still in college.

While it's doubtful Wilson will ever seriously consider a career in pro baseball, there is talk he could report to Surprise, Ariz., for Rangers spring training to serve in a mentoring/motivational role for young players, which he'd be very good at.

But the Pelicans want to take it a step further, by offering to pay $20,000 to a charity of Wilson's choice and send he and his wife on an all-inclusive beach vacation if he will make just one appearance in a Pelicans uniform during a game this season.

“It’s a 50-50 shot, I think,” Milovich said. “It’s a free vacation. Why not here [in Myrtle Beach]? He’s a great guy and we’d love to have him.”
