It may be hard to believe, but Pat Green didn't pick up a guitar until he was in college at Texas Tech University and then he was hooked.
Since humble beginnings, growing up in Waco with 5 sisters and 4 brothers, Green has turned out 10 studio albums including the incredibly successful, "Wave on Wave," and most recently, "What I'm For."
"Music is my primary concern, not only that ... but the families around my band that are affected by us working and not working," said Green.
We recently caught up with Green, at Etta's Place in Fort Worth.

Green also remembers vividly the first time he stepped out onto a stage in front of 50,000 or so of his biggest fans.
"I look back at one night at the Astrodome. The first time I was ever on a big stage … my dad was backstage, and he was like, 'Well what does it feel like to know you are about to go out and do this for all of these people? They're gonna sing your songs, 50,000 people,' and I'm like, 'Dad it feels exactly as cool and you think it does,'" said Green.
He credits radio play with helping him achieve such success.
"On our second record, "Songs About Texas," a song by a friend of mine named Walt Wilkins, who is one of the greatest people on the planet, started getting airplay around Dallas. At that time the Texas music scene was coming on strong, between Robert Earl Keen and Jerry Jeff Walker, etc., etc. So, every Sunday at 5 or 6 o'clock there was a Texas music hour and we would get a lot of airplay in there," said Green.
Although he's lived all around Texas, along with his wife and children, Green now calls Fort Worth home.
"It just moves slower, you know. I've never been one that's tried to be anything. I'm just, 'Hey be yourself and let it go,'" said Green. "Austin, Dallas, Houston -- everything moves so fast and everybody is watching. It feels like Fort Worth goes about 35 miles an hour. This town, like Austin, you are a Texan here. That has always been important to me."
Green is an avid golfer, has written a coffee table book on dance halls around Texas [with a little help from his friends] and is currently on tour supporting his new album, "What I'm For."
