AUSTIN– The State Preservation Board is meeting to decide where to relocate the Confederate plaque that was removed from the Texas Capitol earlier this month.The board, which is made up of Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Speaker Dennis Bonnen, Rep. Jeff Leach, a member of the public and the newly-appointed Sen. Bryan Hughes, will hear public comments about the plaque's fate.The controversial plaque was erected in 1959 during the Civil Rights era and claimed slavery was not the underlying cause of the Civil War. Democrats had long asked for the plaque to be removed and in 2017, Dallas Democrat Rep. Eric Johnson began a campaign to have it taken down.The meeting begins a 9 a.m. at the Texas Capitol.
