AUSTIN -- The Senate on Thursday approved a slimmed-down "private school choice" or voucher bill after Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and the bill's author made concessions to fellow Republicans who represent rural areas or were anxious about future-year costs.The bill was approved 18-13, mostly but not entirely along party lines.Republican Robert Nichols of Jacksonville and Kel Seliger of Amarillo broke with their party to vote against, while Brownsville Democrat voted for.
