Arizona Sen. John McCain has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, his office said in a prepared statement Wednesday. McCain went into surgery last Friday at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix to remove a blood clot from above his left eye. An analysis of tissue showed that a glioblastoma was associated with the clot. "Senator McCain appreciates the outpouring of support he has received over the last few days," the statement said. "He is in good spirits as he continues to recover at home with his family in Arizona."McCain and his family are reviewing further treatment options, which could include a combination of chemotherapy and radiation, his office said.
