Dallas Will Give Out More Than 2,600 Trees Saturday to Try to Curb Its Urban Heat Island Effect

Hundreds of Dallas residents will receive a free five-gallon tree from the city Saturday.The trees are a part of Branch Out Dallas, a city-funded program aimed at reducing Dallas' urban heat island effect — the heat produced by people, vehicles and energy use in large cities — and improving air quality.More than 2,600 residents registered for the trees months in advance and can pick up their redbud, cedar elm, lacebark elm, Shumard oak or chinquapin oak from a designated Dallas school.Any unclaimed trees will be available to residents at noon on Saturday from St. Monica Catholic School at 4140 Walnut Hill Ln.  Continue reading...
