At a Hollywood industry party, three simple words and a fabulous self-designed top catapulted Abi Ferrin from a sales job to national acclaim in the elite fashion industry: “I’m a designer.”
It’s fitting that Ferrin got her start in Hollywood as celebrities like Molly Sims and Rosalyn Sanchez began calling her with personal requests soon after Dayna Devon featured her clothes on “Extra.” But rather than staying in L.A. or moving to America’s fashion capital, aka NYC, she made the move to Texas where she could harbor her creativity and not worry about what’s “in.”
Just because she isn’t in NYC doesn’t mean she isn’t known there—her fabulous line of clothes has been featured in many runway shows. Stanley Korshak also named her “Texas’ Next Top Designer” and awarded her a loft with storefront space on Lamar.
Ferrin’s line is created under the motto “Fashion with Freedom and Purpose.” As catchy of a motto as it is, there’s more to it than just that; she employs women rescued from the sex trade in Nepal by using their hand-made buttons in her designs.
Innovative and intelligent, Ferrin has become a large part of Dallas’ fashion industry. Watch out NYC—you’ve got some serious competition.
