Anne Rice, author of Interview with the Vampire, The Witching Hour, The Vampire Lestat and scores of other chill-inducing novels, is selling her New Orleans home for $3.19 million.
Located at 3711 Saint Charles Avenue, the elegant Victorian mansion boasts six bedrooms and seven bathrooms over 7,600 square feet of interior living space. An expansive double gallery and sophisticated entryway lead to the home's center hall, which features stained glass pieces from the 1880s and a grand mahogany and cypress staircase. According to the listing, formal rooms in the well-appointed spread include a parlor, dining room, sitting room, and study, all decked out with elaborate moldings, mantles, medallions and crystal chandeliers.
The bestselling author is no stranger to spooky New Orleans homes. Prior to living at 3711 Saint Charles Avenue, Rice shacked up at 1239 First Street, which reportedly later became the setting for her novel, The Witching Hour. In real life, the mansion is apparently considered to be haunted by its original owner, and on moonless nights, the residents of the area can see a mist form on the porch where the former owner shot himself. Apparently for Rice, life does indeed imitate art.
