Don joined the NBC 5 news team in 2013 as an Assignments/Investigative Editor and Researcher, where he specializes in breaking news and investigative stories after nearly 35 years as a well-respected and highly decorated North Texas law enforcement official.
He is a former Dallas County Sheriff’s Administrative Senior Sergeant, who brings a wealth of real-world police training and personal street experience to NBC 5 with his direct involvement in a number of high profile field and leadership assignments during his career.

In 2017, Don received a national Edward R. Murrow Award for his teamwork in covering the 2016 Dallas Police Officer Ambush and is a four-time Lone Star Emmy Award winner.
Don holds a number of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement certifications and licenses, including Master Texas Peace Officer, arson investigation, advanced accident investigation, and firearms instructor certification.
