Brittney Johnson is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and serves as the co-anchor of NBC 5 News at 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. When she’s not anchoring a newscast or in the field interviewing community members for stories, you can catch Brittney speaking at local events or volunteering with service groups across DFW.
Before moving to Texas, Brittney spent six years in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she anchored the market’s top-rated morning newscasts. During her time there, she delivered in-depth and investigative stories on critical issues such as the affordable housing crisis, mental health, and the foster care system. Her work has earned a LoneStar EMMY, more than a dozen Emmy nominations from previous news markets and awards from the Associated Press. She was named 2019 Anchor of the Year by the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters (NCAB) and along with her co-anchor, received the Anchor Team of the Year award for 2019 and 2020 from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC).

Brittney's career in TV news has also taken her to Little Rock, Arkansas, and Monroe, Louisiana, where she chased storms and stories as an anchor and reporter. She started her journalism career as a staff writer and section editor at The Hilltop newspaper during her undergraduate years at Howard University. Brittney holds a master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and worked as a health reporting fellow for The Washington Post.
Beyond her journalism career, Brittney is a dedicated fitness enthusiast. She is a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach and enjoys running marathons, practicing yoga, and indoor and outdoor cycling.
Brittney is also a former Girl Scout who remains deeply committed to serving the community. In DFW, she serves as a speaker and emcee for various charities, delivers lunch to seniors every Tuesday for Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County, and frequently donates platelets through Carter BloodCare. She has served as the Honorary Chair for the Community Council of Greater Dallas’ Family Fit Fest for 2023 and 2024, as well as 2024 Chair of NAMIWalks for NAMI North Texas, championing mental health for all. Brittney co-sponsors a scholarship for college students in Texas through the Arlington Foundation for Excellence in Education and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists. Over the years she has also served as a coach for Girls on the Run, hosted bone marrow registry drives for Be The Match, and tutored children as a reading buddy.
Born in Dallas and having spent part of her childhood in Little Rock before settling in Charlotte, Brittney is thrilled to be back in Texas and looks forward to connecting with viewers across DFW.
