25th Texas Black Invitational Rodeo

Benefiting The African-American Museum

Celebrate Juneteenth with NBC 5 and the African American Museum at the 25th Texas Black Invitational Rodeo on Saturday, June 16, at the State Fair Coliseum in Fair Park.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is a very important holiday in the African-American community. On Jan. 1, 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation abolished slavery in the United States. However, news of their freedom did not reach the slaves in Texas until over two years later when union soldiers arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865.

Proceeds from the 25th Texas Black Invitational Rodeo benefit the African American Museum and their mission of research, presentation and preservation of visual art forms and historical documents that relate to the African American Community.
