Dallas native and University of Alabama student Ashley Harrison was one of the more than 250 people killed Wednesday when a massive tornado ripped through Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Harrison, a 2007 graduate of Ursuline Academy, was taking cover in a closet with friends as a massive tornado was bearing down on her apartment. After the storm passed, Harrison was gone. Initially reported as missing in the aftermath, her body was recovered hours after the storm passed more than 100 yards from where she sought refuge.
Harrison's parents flew into Tuscaloosa overnight Wednesday to assist in the search for their daughter.
Harrison's boyfriend, Crimson Tide longsnapper Carson Tinker, and another friend, were both inside the apartment with her when the tornado struck. They were both found in the rubble injured, but alive. Tinker was found 50 yards away from the apartment, according to Alabama head football coach Nick Saban via @ESPNCFBLive.
The people that knew Harrison described her as someone who was full of life with a lot to live for. News of her sudden passing is hitting those who knew her best incredibly hard.
"Ashley made a mark in a short time. She will be well remembered, terribly missed," said Betty Bourgeois, Harrison's former principal at Ursuline Academy. "I'm shocked, I'm shocked to think that she could be gone."
Hundreds of messages memorializing Harrison have offered support to her family and friends on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Many mention her affiliation with Phi Mu, her smile and her love of life.

"She will be lovingly remembered. Those who knew her, loved her. She was a lovable young woman and she ... had a twinkle in her eye. She was just a happy person. We will miss her," Bourgeois said.
Funeral arrangements for Harrison have not yet been announced.
