Dorsett to Auction Off Personal Memorabilia

Former Cowboys great and NFL Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett has a lot of cool stuff he's putting up for auction that could all be yours for a hefty price, of course.

Dorsett stressed to the Dallas Morning News that the items won't include big-time items like Super Bowl rings or his Heisman Trophy — this isn't an O.J. Simpson-type auction, basically.

"A lot of it has been in storage for so long, it's been collecting dust," Dorsett, 61, told SportsDay on Tuesday. "Maybe there's some Cowboys fans, or football fans or sports fans in general who can appreciate it more than what I've been doing with it."

The featured Dorsett Collection items to be auctioned this weekend in San Francisco as part of the Hunt Auctions' Super Bowl 50 Live Auction include his 1975 Kodak All-American Award (estimated $2,000 to $4,000 value), his 1977 UPI NFC Rookie of the Year trophy ($20,000 to 40,000), his collection of Cowboys game footballs ($10,000 to $30,000) and one of his Pro Bowl jerseys ($2,000 to $4,000).

"There's some really good stuff, but my major, major stuff -- like the Heisman, my Super Bowl rings -- those ain't going nowhere," Dorsett said. "This isn't one of those type of deals."

A portion of the proceeds from the Dorsett Collection will go to Plano's Minnie's Food Pantry, a 501(c) 3 non-profit that provides food to Collin County families in need.

"You see a major city like Dallas and you see so many people who are homeless and without food, it's heartbreaking," Dorsett said. "So I decided to try to help those people. They're more in need than most."
