Two North Texas families are making funeral arrangements after a tragic crash early Sunday morning.
“You can’t make sense of it. I can’t,” said Jeff Wilcox, the uncle of one of the two young victims.
Early Sunday morning, 26-year-old Luis Solano was driving his girlfriend, 23-year-old Promise Hamilton, to D/FW International Airport. She was headed to France to study art and start a new job as an au pair.
“The family had a big dinner the night before and she was sitting to my left and she was very nervous,” said Wilcox. “She was extremely nervous, but excited at the same time.”
But the two didn’t get far from Hamilton’s home in North Dallas. At the corner of Frankford Road and the Dallas North Tollway, a suspected drunken driver, identified Tuesday by police as 26-year-old Moses Githenya Mwangi, slammed into their car, killing both Solano and Hamilton.
Mwangi was hospitalized following the crash, but has since been transfered to the Collin County Jail where he's being held on $500,000 bond while facing two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
“I would like to ask him does he really regret it, not just because of what’s going to happen to him, and what has happened to him, but does he really regret it,” said Wilcox.

The funeral for Hamilton, who was a graphic designer for the Dallas Stars, will be held at the team’s practice facility Saturday afternoon.
On the team’s Facebook page, the Dallas Stars wrote:
Early Sunday morning, we lost a dear member of the Dallas Stars family. Promise Hamilton was an extremely talented, kind, beautiful, wonderful person. She enriched the lives of everyone she met. If you follow this team, you have no doubt shared our admiration for Promise, every time you see her talented graphic design work come across your social media feed, on our website, or in our advertising.
We miss Promise greatly already, and our thoughts, prayers and support are with her family and the family of Luis Solano in this extremely difficult time.
"As her former teacher, its hard to imagine that you would see your former students be buried before you. Promise was a go-getter, she was one of those students you couldn't forget. Full of life, full of energy," said Greg Hill, Hamilton's former geography teacher.
Luis Solano was a student at the University of Texas at Arlington and was a major in mechanical engineering. Upon learning of his death, the school issued the following statement:
Our hearts go out to the Hamilton and Solano families for their tragic loss. The Maverick family will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
Solano's funeral is scheduled for Friday in Sunnyvale.
