World's Largest Fritos Chili Pie Coming to State Fair

Fritos and Hormel Chili to attempt Guiness World Record

If the State Fair of Texas didn’t already have your mouth watering over the music line up and the fried food choices, this may make a believer out of you.

In the spirit of everything being bigger in Texas, Fritos and Hormel Chili have conspired to create the biggest-ever Fritos Chili Pie. For those of you who aren’t from Texas, or anywhere in the southwest, that’s a mixture of Fritos corn chips, chilli and cheddar cheese. Please note: there was regrettably no mention of sour cream.

“For 80 years, Fritos corn chips have been an important piece of Americana,” said Tony Matta, vice president, marketing, Frito-Lay. “Our Guinness World Records® title attempt will not only add a new milestone to our proud history, it will also serve as a hearty celebration for this timeless snack.”

Starting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 1, attendees at the State Fair of Texas can join the fun as the oversized Fritos Chili Pie is constructed in Big Tex Circle (look for the giant Big Tex statue). If an official record is set, a Guiness World Record adjudicator will verify the accomplishment, and presumably push his way to the front of the line for a sample.

Once the record is verified, fairgoers will be able to sample the pie, along with a variety of Pepsi beverages.
