Vacant Home Goes Up in Flames in Dallas

Neighbors say home was vacant in recent months

A fire broke out in a vacant home overnight along the 3600-block of Spring Avenue in Dallas not far from Fair Park.

Neighbors told NBC 5 they woke shortly before 5 a.m. to the smell of smoke and an orange glow outside and initially feared their home was on fire.  After running outside, they realized their home was safe and that the fire was in a home that had been vacant in recent months.

When firefighters arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.  Firefighters worked quickly to get the fire under control and to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes and cars.

The home appears to be a total loss.

There were no reported injuries from the fire.  Since the home is believed to have been vacant, assistance from the Red Cross has not been requested.
