A 5-year-old Dallas girl made a surprise visit to her local firefighters Sunday to thank them for saving her from an unlikely tight spot last week.
On Monday, firefighters from Dallas Station 17 were called to the Kieta family’s house where their daughter, Vivian, had tripped and fallen into her brothers bicycle; lodging her foot inside. Not usually a situation worthy of a 911 call, but mother Emily quickly found herself with no other option as her daughter’s foot was stuck that badly.
“I did everything I could think of to get her loose, and to no avail,” said Emily. “I felt silly calling 911, but it was going to be an emergency soon if we didn’t get her out.”
So a team of firefighters from the station as well as a Dallas police officer worked for about 15 minutes, eventually disassembling the bike to get the young girl free.
“They were just so gentle and confident; I felt her whole demeanor change as soon as they knelt around her,” said Emily.
Capt. Steve Klepfer said the team felt so bad for the little girl’s misfortune, they even stayed at the house a little longer to reassemble the bicycle.
Not quite a lifesaving situation, but it made a serious impression on the little girl who stopped by the station with her family on Sunday to drop off lunch for all of the firefighters as well as some handmade thank you drawings for her rescuers.
