Texas Deputy Constable Charged in Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Authorities say a Montgomery County deputy constable is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of a sheriff's deputy after the motorcycle they were riding on crashed.

Conroe police said 26-year-old James Earl Selmser III had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he crashed his motorcycle at about 3 a.m. on Jan. 29.

Twenty-one-year-old Catherine Breeding died after authorities say she was thrown off the motorcycle during the crash. Both Breeding and Selmser were off duty at the time of the wreck.

Selmser's attorney said his client has been released on a $50,000 bond. Selmser is set to make his first court appearance on March 25.

The Houston Chronicle said Precinct 1 Constable Don Chumley couldn't be reached for comment.
