Suspect in Custody After FBI Agent Shot in West Texas

An FBI agent is hospitalized after he was shot while attempting an arrest on a West Texas dirt back road.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says Mike Orndorff, a Lubbock-based FBI agent, was part of a multijurisdictional group working to arrest a man about 10 p.m. Thursday on a dirt road near an airport 5 miles south of Crosbyton.

DPS Sgt. Bryan Witt says that suspect was arrested, but he wasn't the shooter who wounded Orndorff.

He had no information on what the detainee was sought for or information on the shooter.

Witt had no information on the agent's condition, and University Medical Center in Lubbock had no record of him. An FBI spokeswoman declined to release the agent's condition.

Crosbyton is about 35 miles east of Lubbock.
