A Southwest Airlines flight returned to Dallas Love Field shortly after takeoff Saturday morning due to a potential mechanical issue involving one of the plane's engines.
Flight 3390 had just departed en route to Baltimore/Washington International Airport at about 9:45 a.m. when the captain reported the issue, an airline spokesperson said. The plane then circled above North Texas to burn off fuel before the plane could land at Love Field.
An airport administrator told NBC 5 the initial emergency was a report of an engine fire, and the airline said the aircraft has been removed from service for a maintenance check.
The 134 passengers were accommodated on another flight that departed about two hours later, the airline spokesperson said.
