Presidential Plane Gets Repainted in Fort Worth

A wide-body jet that serves as Air Force One when President Barack Obama is aboard has landed in North Texas for a paint job.

The iconic Boeing 747 that bears the words "United States of America" landed Thursday at Fort Worth Meacham International Airport.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Leading Edge Aviation Services, Inc. will work on the jet with the tail number 28000.

Boeing spokeswoman Jennifer Hogan says the aircraft is completing a yearlong heavy maintenance cycle and is in Fort Worth to be repainted. Hogan says the jet will be returned to presidential service after inspections and flight tests.

No schedule was provided for updating the jet's famed blue and white paint scheme.

Officials with Leading Edge Aviation Services on Friday referred questions back to Boeing.

The Star-Telegram reports no public tours will be available while the plane is in North Texas.

Fun Fact: The plane is only known as Air Force One when the President is on board.
