Two people were killed when a small plane crashed in Hood County, near Granbury High School Thursday night, officials say. [[329343681,C]]
State Trooper Lonnie Haschel with the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to NBC 5 that the two men on board the plane died. They have not been identified.
The single-engine aircraft went down shortly after takeoff just south of the runway and burst into flames at Granbury Municipal Airport, according to Lynn Lunsford with the Federal Aviation Administration.
The crash happened at about 7 p.m., within a few hundred yards of a high school football game at Pirate Stadium. Witnesses said coaches and parents ran from the stadium to help.
No other injuries have been reported.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
