More than 30 firefighters from three departments were called to the home in the 1000 block of Rabbit Ridge near Lowe Road just after 2 a.m.

Though their home was destroyed, the family managed to make it out unharmed before calling 911. "They lost all their contents and the structure itself," Rockwall fire chief Mark Poindexter told NBC 5.

"They've been in this area a long time and pretty much everything is lost in that house."

The fire continued to burn for hours into the morning. Firefighters initially had trouble with low water pressure due to the amount of hoses used, Poindexter said. The extreme heat led to at least one firefighter being treated for dehydration.

NBC 5's Jeff Smith contributed to this report.
