Fort Worth Firefighters Search Trinity River for Missing Kayaker

Divers with the Fort Worth Fire Department continue searching the Trinity River Tuesday for a kayaker missing since Sunday.

The kayaker, identified Tuesday by the Fort Worth Fire Department as 21-year-old Tyler Smith, was expected to be somewhere at 5 p.m. Sunday and never arrived.

Smith's car was found Monday at the parking lot where he is believed to have entered the water at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

He is described as white, 6 feet tall and weighing about 150 pounds.  He was last seen in a white shirt and jeans.

Fort Worth firefighters began a surface and underwater search for Smith near the 1300 block of Beach Street Monday before extending the search downstream into Arlington with the assistance of the Arlington Fire Department.

Authorities said they will focus on searching the Trinity River near Gateway Park Tuesday.

Smith's kayak has not yet been found.
