Faces of Drunk Driving: Child Paralyzed by Intoxicated Driver Shares Story

9-year-old Chilli Vasquez was hit by a drunk driver in 2011 and spent 105 days in the hospital and will likely never walk again. Her story is featured in the Texas Department of Transportation’s new Faces of Drunk Driving campaign.

A 9-year-old Fort Worth girl, paralyzed by a drunken driver, is telling her story.

Chilli Vasquez, 9, will likely be confined to a wheelchair for hte rest of her life.  She was with her aunt, sister and cousins on July 9, 2011 when an intoxicated driver hit them head-on.

Now, Vasquez and her mother have teamed up with the Texas Department of Transportation as part of the Faces of Drunk Driving campaign, rolling out over the July 4th holiday.

"We think about it, because we have relatives that drink, too," said Arabella Sanchez, the girl's mother. "I just don't understand how someone could get behind the wheel and do that."

The driver that hit Vasquez, Jeremy Solis, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence.
