Dallas police have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of robbing a Subway restaurant with a curling iron that he tried to pass off as a gun late last week. [[344678912,C]]
Police said Arieus Warren went into the Subway on the 300 block of West Kiest Boulevard, gestured to the cashier that he had a gun and demanded money from the cash register at about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 6.
After taking the cash, police said Warren ran into a neighborhood near Interstate 35E and tried to steal a car. The carjacking victim realized Warren was holding a curling iron instead of a gun and thwarted the attempt.
When officers arrived at the neighborhood, a witness flagged them down and told them they saw a man run into a storage shed in the 300 block of West Corning Avenue, according to police. Officers approached the shed and saw Warren, who ran.
Police said they set up a perimeter and quickly found Warren, carrying money stolen from the Subway restaurant, and two curling irons.
The suspect was arrested and placed in Lew Sterrett Jail.
