North Texas Police Pay Respects to Slain San Antonio Police Detective

The funeral for San Antonio police detective Benjamin Marconi will take place Monday.

The 50-year-old father of two grown children was fatally shot Nov. 20 as he sat in his patrol car writing a traffic ticket outside of police headquarters. A 31-year-old man has been charged with capital murder in the shooting.

Dozens of Dallas police officers board a bus to San Antonio Monday to pay their respects to a detective killed in the line of duty last week.

Several North Texas police departments are sending representatives to the funeral, including the Dallas Police Department. About three dozen officers packed a bus early Monday morning to begin making the trip to San Antonio.

Assistant Chief Christina Smith said it was very important for the Dallas Police Department to have a presence and show their support.

"We had such an outpouring of love support after the July 7th incident," said Smith. "And this is just one small way we can say thank you to San Antonio and show our respect for the officer that was killed."

Marconi was a 20-year veteran of the department.

Fort Worth police officers will attend the funeral for SAPD Detective Benjamin Marconi Monday.

The funeral for Marconi will begin at 11 a.m. at Community Bible Church in San Antonio. Among those who are set to speak at the service are Marconi's children, other law officers and state Sen. Carlos Uresti.
