Dallas Carjacking Ends With Police Chase in Fort Worth

Police say what began as a carjacking in Dallas ended in an hour-long police chase through Arlington and Fort Worth.

According to police, the carjacking happened at South Westmoreland Road and West Camp Wisdom Road in Oak Cliff Saturday afternoon.

Arlington police spotted the vehicle near Road to Six Flags and Ballpark Way at about 5:25 p.m.

Officers began chasing the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Shantawn Adams, down Interstate 30 into Fort Worth near Interstate 20 and Hulen.

Mike Sankary was driving home from a TCU game when he looked into his rear view mirror and saw about a half dozen patrol cars with their lights flashing right behind him. Before he knew what hit him, his Jeep was side-swiped by the carjacked sedan.

Sankary told NBCDFW as he pulled to the right, Adams side-swiped his Jeep.

"I mean, it was so fast, I never really even saw the car," Sankary said. Despite the minor damage to his rental Jeep, Sankary was uninjured and followed police to the area where the chase ended, at the intersection of International Plaza and Arbor Lawn.

According to police, the vehicle spun out before coming to a stop, but Adams refused to get out of the car. An officer tased Adams before placing him under arrest, police said.

"I'm just really lucky that this is the extent of it and nobody else got hurt," Sankary said.

Arlington police said Adams is likely to face a charge of evading arrest, as well as additional charges in Dallas.

NBC 5's Tim Ciesco contributed to this report.
