Custodian Burned at Frisco Middle School

A custodian cleaning the floors at Frisco's Scoggins Middle School badly burned when the floor buffer she was using caught fire.

The custodian, whose name has not been released, was cleaning the floor in the school's cafeteria just before 10 a.m. when the cleaner caught fire, according to Shana Wortham, communications director for the Frisco Independent School District.

The custodian was transported to the hospital by air ambulance with injuries that are not considered life threatening.  The custodian's name and condition have not been released.

Students at the school were evacuated as a precaution, but have since returned to class. Principal Barbara Warner sent the following letter home to parents on Wednesday.

Dear Parents:

We just wanted to let you know that students were evacuated this morning due to a fire in the cafeteria involving cleaning equipment. No students were involved or in harm’s way, but one of our custodians has sustained injuries and is being transported for medical care. We know you will keep them in your thoughts and your concern is appreciated. Students will return to the building when cleared to do so by the fire and medical personnel and we will keep you posted. Sincerely,
Barbara Warner
Principal
