Coast Guard Rescues 2 Stranded on Bridge Piling in Galveston

Two boaters whose 8-foot vessel began taking on water have been rescued from a bridge piling under the more than mile-long Galveston Causeway.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the boaters were rescued before dawn Thursday from the concrete piling under the towering highway bridge.

The boaters were safely transported to a marina. No injuries were immediately reported.

The Coast Guard received a phone call shortly before 12:30 a.m. CST Thursday saying the pair made it to a concrete piling when their boat began to sink. Emergency officials didn't immediately say who summoned help for the boaters.
