Parkland Hospital police officers worked crossing guard duty Friday night at the intersection where one hospital employee was killed and another injured Friday morning.
Officials said the extra safety could become a permanent rush hour feature after a shuttle bus struck the employees during the morning rush hour.
Dallas Fire-Rescue officials said the bus struck the two pedestrians in the 4900 block of Harry Hines Boulevard at about 6:50 a.m. The bus dragged the man several feet before stopping, authorities said.
"They were near the cross walk, as far as we know," Dallas Police Department's Chinh Le said.
Police said the man, identified as 61-year-old registered nurse Randal Dygert, died from injuries sustained in the wreck. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Parkland where she is stable.
“We are absolutely devastated by this tragedy,” Parkland President and CEO Dr. Fred Cerise said. "Our hearts go out to the families and colleagues of both employees."
A statement from Parkland said Dygert was "a long-time and much-beloved employee of Parkland Health & Hospital System."

“[Dygert] served as a nurse at Parkland for 33 years,” Cerise said. “He was well known throughout the system and touched the lives of many employees and patients. He represented what is best about Parkland employees. He will be dearly missed.”
The mini-bus involved in the collision was operated by Buses by Bill, Inc. The company released a statement Friday saying, "Buses by Bill Inc. wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the man who died in this accident. We are also taking whatever steps are necessary to make sure the injured woman receives excellent medical care."
Dallas police said the driver will not be charged.
The statement went on to say it is working closely and fully cooperating with the Dallas Police Department and law enforcement to determine why the accident took place.
