While some families spent their Fourth of July fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard, another was praying as the Dallas Police Department, Dallas Fire-Rescue and Texas Game Wardens spent the morning searching for the body of a missing boater.
The Dallas Police Department found the body of a 43-year-old man who went missing on July 3 at around 4:45 p.m. when he jumped from the boat he was on. He jumped in to save a man who was drowning.
Dallas police said the victim was on a boat when he noticed someone in the water, and jumped in to try to save him.
"He had a life vest on," said Dallas police Sgt. Terry Varden. "He took it off and gave it to the other person thinking he would make it back and help the other person." When the other person made it safely to the boat, he turned around and noticed his savior was gone.
Crews searched the lake on Sunday trying to find the man, but the search ended unsuccessfully, according to police. The search resumed on Monday, but was classified as a recovery mission instead of a rescue.
After weather delayed the search until 9:30 a.m., Dallas police were able to locate the body of the missing boater at 12:45 p.m. using sonar equipment.
"Weather had to do a lot with what happened here yesterday," Varden said. "Even if you're a strong swimmer, if the water is pushing you hard and the waves are going over your head, it's very hard to go against that."

Varden stressed that everyone should be wearing a life vest if they're going to be on a boat, or in the water.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
Texas Game Warden said another man drown in at Lake Ray Hubbard late Monday afternoon after a boat he was on capsized. His identity has not be released.
