Austin Teacher Accused of Improper Relationship on Fort Worth Trip

A teacher from the Austin area says she will surrender to Fort Worth police on Monday amid allegations of an improper relationships with a student.

The teacher, Christina McCann, allegedly engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student during a school trip to Fort Worth.

McCann was placed on paid administrative leave by the Lake Travis Independent School District in early May after the allegations surfaced on May 5. McCann, who taught marketing courses and was a DECA advisor at Lake Travis High School, resigned on May 12.

According to a Lake Travis ISD News Release issued last March, McCann and a group of students were in Fort Worth in February for the Texas DECA competition. The team advanced and was to travel to Orlando, Fla., between April 29-May 4. NBCDFW is looking into whether or not this trip to Fort Worth is the one in question and if McCann was traveling with the students to Florida before her suspension.

Marco Alvarado, spokesperson for Lake Travis ISD said that because McCann is no longer employed by the district, their investigation is over. Not so for the Travis County Sheriff's Department and the Fort Worth police, who have issued a warrant for an improper relationship between an educator and student. McCann notified Fort Worth police she'll turn herself in on Monday, officials said.

The Lake Travis ISD website shows McCann began teaching in the district in 2007 and that she has a degree in marketing and management from Baylor University.

McCann was elected as the state president of the Marketing Educators of Texas Board of Directors for the 2008-2009 school year and serves on the board as a former president.
