American Airlines employees picketed outside the company's headquarters Tuesday morning, asking for higher wages and fair treatment.
Retired and active employees asked for pensions to be unfrozen, additional free flights for children and more on the day when the airline announced a record fourth-quarter profit of $1.1 billion, a 150 percent improvement over last year's.
"When you have your CEO and corporate officials making money, that is being made off our backs," American Airlines employee Linneah Gallant said. "We have given our sweat and tears to this company and we're just asking that be shared."
The pickets told NBC 5 that they don't want to fight. They just want what's right.
"We're the face of this company," Polly Lang said. "We're dealing with the passengers. We bend over backward. We don't get paid for a lot of the job that we are required to do."
Airline representatives told NBC 5 their flight attendents already earn 7 percent more in base wages than Delta's. They also said they've spent nearly $2 billion on improving customers' travel experience.
