Police say four workers are being treated for burns after an explosion and fire at a chemical plant along the Houston Ship Channel.
Pasadena police said the accident happened Friday morning and the fire has been put out. Authorities are trying to determine what sparked the accident at a SunEdison silicon plant.
Pasadena police spokesman Vance Mitchell had no immediate information on what part of the plant was affected. He said there was no threat to the community.
Mitchell said the injured workers were stable and transported to hospitals for treatment of burns not believed to be life-threatening. Their names weren't immediately released.
SunEdison spokesman Gordon Handelsman said efforts were being focused Friday on the safety of employees. He said the company is gathering information about the accident.
Editor's Note: This story has been corrected to show the plant is operated by SunEdison, not Albemarle, as first reported by police. We regret the error.
