The United States Geological Survey says a 2.4 magnitude earthquake rattled Irving early Monday morning.
The quake was recorded at 6:03 a.m. with the epicenter just east of North O'Connor Boulevard and Texas 183 not far from the former site of Texas Stadium.
The tremblor is the latest in a string of unusual quakes to strike the area since Oct. 28, 2014. Monday's quake was rated an MMI III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity scale, indicating weak shaking and no damage reports.
Before Monday, the most recent recorded quake over 2.0 to be recorded in the area was about two weeks ago on June 28 near Rochelle Road between Esters Road and Belt Line Road north of Airport Freeway. The day before, on June 27, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Northwest Highway and Loop 12.
Coincidentally, The Dallas Morning News reports seismologists with the USGS are scheduled to be at Dallas City Hall Monday to meet with the state's earthquake task force regarding the state's recent earthquake activity. The media, the Morning News reports, is not invited to attend -- but a briefing is expected in the coming weeks.
