Mayor, Daughter to Share Funeral Service

A memorial service has been set for the Coppell mayor and her daughter who died in what police say was an apparent murder-suicide committed by the elected official.

A statement on the city's website says the service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Coppell, a city of about 40,000 located 15 miles northwest of Dallas.

Police said Mayor Jayne Peters apparently shot her 19-year-old daughter Corinne to death before fatally shooting herself. Police found the bodies Tuesday night after the mayor failed to show up at a city council meeting.

Notes left at the home warned officers about the scene they would find and outlined how to manage family affairs, but did not provide explanations for the deaths of the 55-year-old mayor and her daughter.
