If you like free stuff and saving money, listen up. There is one day a year retailers are literally giving the store away -- your birthday.
These days birthday freebies are turning into big business.
"It's a win, win if you think about it. They're coming in and getting a free meal but they're also buying one with a friend or loved one," said Frank Erceg of Repeat Rewards.
Even large companies like Disney have bought into the birthday bonanza, offering free admission on your special day. Local restaurants are taking part as well. Brazilian steakhouse Texas de Brazil sends free meal coupons via email for anniversaries and birthdays to those in their eClub.
The possibilities are almost endless.
In Tampa, Fla., NBC's Kristen Dahlgren found discounts at other theme parks, free coffee, breakfast and even a teeth cleaning ... all just for going to visit the merchant on her birthday.
"Anytime the week of their birthday -- for one of our patients -- they can get their teeth cleaned. We do that to make them feel special. Just a little patient appreciation," said Dr. Nicole Gordon, dentist.
