Denton County deputies are there to protect and serve the community. And sometimes, they help deliver babies.
Jeremy Smith was racing Jessica Taylor to the hospital to give birth to their daughter when Deputy Jason Quigley pulled them over.
Quigley spotted Smith going 97 mph in a 55-mph zone on Farm-to-Market 2449 near Interstate 35. He pulled Smith over expecting to give Smith a ticket.
"I was like, 'We got to go! She's pregnant, having the baby, let's go,'" Smith said. "And he was like, 'No, hold on.'"
Smith said in the minute it took to explain to Quigley why he was speeding, the situation changed.
"She was screaming and telling me that we need to go now, and we needed to leave," Smith said.
"They're still talking, so I just rip my pants down, he looks over, (and) the head's coming out, and he's screaming," Taylor said.

Jayden Leigh Smith was born in the 2006 Nissa Armada a few seconds later. Dad and deputy helped deliver her on the side of the road.
"He runs to his car and comes back with a police rain jacket. It's one of those black-and-yellow (ones), and now it's got baby all over it," Smith said with a smile.
Jayden is healthy and doing fine at Texas Health Denton. She weighed in at a 6 pounds and 13 ounces.
"I'll never forget this one." Smith said.
