Breast augmentation continue to be a popular graduation present for North Texas high school seniors.
βIt's been in the past five to seven years we are seeing more of these types of gifts that you see for graduation,β said Dr. Rod Rohrich, chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern.
He said getting the procedure done right after graduation is appealing to young women because they typically have two to three months to recover before starting college.
He also added that Texas youth may feel more pressure to change their appearance than those in other parts of country.
βThereβs a lot of peer pressure, especially in a place that is so fashion and appearance conscious like Dallas.β
However, he said 17 and 18-year-olds may not be psychologically ready for the surgical procedure.
Implants are a lifetime commitment as they have to be replaced every 10 to 15 years.
