The 2014 NFL season came to an end on Sunday night with the New England Patriots’ 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, just as the latest investigation into alleged cheating began.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Atlanta Falcons are being investigated by the league for pumping artificial crowd noise into the Georgia Dome during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, in an effort to slow opposing offenses--an offense that could draw discipline from the league in the form of a hefty fine or even the loss of a draft pick.
"We were informed during the season that the league office is looking into crowd noise during our games," a Falcons spokesman said. "We have cooperated fully with them, and we’re awaiting the outcome."
According to the report, it’s thought that the practice of using artificial noise was set in motion by someone in the Falcons’ game operations department.
