13 competitive eaters chowed down for the 6th Annual World Tamale Eating Championship at Lewisville City Hall Saturday.
Tim "Eater X" Janus, the only two-time champion in the history of the World Tamale Eating Championships, edged Sonya "the Black Widow" Thomas by just three tamales to reclaim his crown.
Janus, ranked fifth in the world by Major League Eating, consumed 59 tamales in 12 minutes.
Thomas, ranked fourth, finished with 56 tamales.
Although Janus' world record of 71 was never challenged, he and Thomas did post the second- and third-highest totals in the history of the event.
For his efforts, Janus took home a $1,500 cash prize. Thomas won $1,000 for second place.
